I got a second-hand motherboard from a friend of mine, it's a retail boxed Intel DP67BG p67 1155 board. He told me that I wouldn't be able to use it with any CPU over a 2000 series (eg, 2600k) without updating the bios, but he keeps telling me if I update the BIOS, it will disable 4 of the 6 ports due to some kind of port degradation.
However, I can't seem to find any information that corroborates this anywhere on the internet. You'd thing something as big as disabling SATA ports would be a major bullet point in the BIOS changelog, but nope.
The only information I can find on it, is that the bug exists, but is unlikely to affect a majority of the boards out there.
Anybody have any details on this, and know for sure if the updated BIOSes would disable the SATA ports?
