Yesterday, an Intel Meteor Lake CPU codenamed Core Ultra 5 1003H was spotted within the Ashes of The Singularity benchmark database. This was presumed to be a 14th Gen Meteor Lake CPU and can now be confirmed that this is indeed the case. The naming confirms that Intel will be dropping the "Core i" series in favor of a new "Core Ultra" branding. The same chip would be known as Core i5-1003H if the previous branding is used.
Wow, that's some terrible naming. Up there with Pentium Emergency Extreme Edition.

As long as it gives ULTRA gaming fps, I'm fine with the naming. Otherwise, it will become a joke, with memes all over the internet.

What's not clear yet is if there's going to be any model name overlap. The initial rumour/info indicated that the only difference between MTL and RPL-R would be the addition of "Ultra" for the former. If the model numbers do overlap without the "Ultra" signifier that could become quite messy. I sure hope not.

Maybe AMD started it with the AMD Z1 Exxxxxxxtreme? I heard that any system with this CPU has to come with multi-colour mirror shades.

Intel just felt left out.

Truth be told though, the 'i' wasn't very creative either.

When intel unveiled their i's i thought it was the dumbest s*** they could have come up with other than extreme edition ripped out of a fisher price toys catalogue. everyone at work was railing against it and taking turns ridiculing it because it was far less efficient than the core 2 duo naming schemes. around that time core 2 duo got a refresh and the scheme went to hell. within a year i was backtracking on my intel ridicule because the i's made more sense. back then the models were easier to follow, but as soon as intel bloated up the models available to maximise their manufacturing efforts and binning it quckly turned to s***. i think this new scheme is stupid but im ambivilant to change and needing to learn new model names. it's not as bad as apple's max and ultra, in my mind both are the same but on tech specs sheets they are not.

The most annoying is when you are looking for L4 cache models and there is no model descriptor for that so you have to go hunting on Intel's ARK to confirm your hunch if the CPU model you see really has the cache. Anyway, hopefully that idiotic task should end with MTL introducing the big cache again.
