There are a number of vendors listing the 3.0GHz, just try a Pricewatch search "3.0GHz". I took one to the point it wanted a credit card, no information about any delay. They run $505+. Are they just selling them anyway?

The original pentium chip had a flaw in it. They had to recall that also. SSDD. Lesson is, avoid cutting edge unless you get it really cheap or you have money to waste. If you fall into the latter category, please PM me.

"PC makers have inventory of the new 3GHz chip, but it is unlikely any of the chips have gotten to end customers yet. Intel is still talking with PC makers about what to do with the 3GHz chips that are in the field."

So, what are they going to do with them?

Common sense states that either Intel will have the vendors ship the products back to Intel, or Intel will determine that there isn't a problem and give the vendors the go-ahead to sell.

Maybe motherboard BIOSes will just include code to work around the glitch.

If Intel says "do not sell these till we give you the go-ahead" can the cheap resellers who claim to already have them in stock sell them without getting in trouble? (Assuming they get them from Intel and not someone else.)

"PC Makers" also aren't the same as Pricewatch vendors. When an article mentions PC Makers, they mean Dell, Gateway, maybe Systemax, that type.

3rd possibility. Vendors given a means to determine if a given chip is flawed. I read down the forums, there's a guy in another thread about this here claimed he called Intel and they told him there was no recall. I'm thinking they might have it figured out quickly, which would be good for me since my purchase at some time in the future gets pushed back each day they prolong mass marketing the chip.

That makes the most sense given the facts. If it's hit or miss on the issue, just send it back.

You have any idea on the release dates of the other 800mhz chips? I was thinking of getting the 2.6 800 was really curious as to when I would see it hit the market.
