Just wondering if these temperatures are normal, and if I should get a separate fan for my Northbridge/Southbridge on my D975XBX2.
I have an Intel Bad Axe 2 running an E6600 overclocked to 3.2ghz (with no voltage tweaks of any kind ... everything running stock), with 4gb in 4 sticks of OCZ PC6400 ram running 4-4-4-15 at 2.08V (manufacturer recommended) and a Geforce 8800GTX, all in a very well ventilated Antec P180 case. The CPU has a Scythe Ninja HS with the supplied fan blowing through to the rear fan, and under load in my (rather balmy 27-28 degree apartment) it peaks at around 44C.
Under heavy load, and sometimes even playing games, my board will have its ambient and motherboard temperatures jump up to the low fifties. They idle in the mid forties. That's a good 8 degrees hotter than the CPU is bring reported as. The 8800GTX never speeds up its own fan and aside from the buggy Nvidia drivers, hasn't crashed due to heat at all. It's almost completely silent.
So I'm wondering if I should bother to get a separate fan for my bridge chips to keep them cool ... something like an Antec Spot Cool, or something similar. I've heard the Bad Axe 2 runs hot, but to be so high above the CPU temp without overclocking the Bus I'm kind of surprised.
Any opinions?
