Any DDR over 3200 (400MHz) is not certified to work with Intel mobos. That's not to say that it won't work, but Intel mobos don't give you any options to alter jumpers to allocate more voltage to your RAM.

DDR 3500 and above usually require more voltage if you want them to run stable, so your best bet is to max out at 3200 RAM with Intel mobos.

I have the D875PBZ mobo using Mushkin 3500 L2 RAM, but I had to manually set the RAM back to 2-3-3-6 timings to get it to run stable with my mobo because the RAM is too fast for it.

On this particular board you can only set the memory timings( the "2-3-3-6" thingy), you can't adjust the speed. It's tied into the speed of the CPU which is only abjustable to ±4% of the default FSB (200MHz). That's why using anything faster than PC3200, or maybe PC3500 at the most, is a waste because the fastest you can run your memory on this board is 200MHz x 4% or 208MHz .

No one ever talks about DDR500

Why talk about DDR500 and this board? There's no reason to.

As three of us have already told you, if you use it on this board it's just going to run at DDR400 speeds. Why pay the extra price for speed that you are not going to utilize, unless you plan on using the same RAM on some overclockable board at some time in the future?
