Intel D850 or other mobos?

I will be building a P4 1.6A, 512 RDRAM system soon and was looking at Intel's D850MV mobo. I will not be overclocking instead want a really stable system. Overclocking aside, why aren't there more people using this board compared to the likes of Asus, Abit, MSI etc.? It certainly costs a lot less than the Asus P4TE. Is it comparatively stable/more stable than other mobos? Any reasons I should be looking at other mobos? Thanks for the input.

It's a great board with excellent stability. That's its ONLY feature though. Stability. Performance is nothing special, nor are there any special features on the board.

Although you may say that you won't be overclocking, most people tend to want to try it out at some stage on their personal systems. I would still choose the ASUS P4T-E over the Intel D850MV Maryville board though. Not only do you get stability with the P4T-E, you also get a lot of tweaking options.

What is this "problem" I hear with the Caps Lock on the D850MV?

I've done overclocking before on my current Athlon 800. Was fun while it lasted. Now I just want to build a stable and quiet system for dedicated audio use.

well thats the nice thing about hte pentium 4

I have a 1.6A Ghz p4 and its running at 2.1Ghz and is more stable than my athlon system was and that wasnt even overclocked. I can run 3dmark 2001 + Prime95 at the same time for over 12 hours and no problems at all. Im using the retail HSF to.

So i agree with andyhui. :)

Far be it for me to disagree with Andy the FAQ man, but I say don't buy either the D850MV or the P4TE. At this point in time, it really will pay for you to wait another month. Within that time, we should see new 533MHz boards and much cheaper Northwoods! :p

Thanks for the heads up. But wouldn't the new 533Mhz cost a lot more than the current boards, granted the northwoods will be cheaper? and does it require a different type or memory? Thanks.

No one knows for sure, but I don't see how they could be priced much more than the current i850 boards (which are already expensive by any measure). Rather, I would expect to see the current crop of boards blown-out at greatly reduced prices. Likewise, I'm sure that Intel is slashing the prices (starting this month) on all of their current '400MHz' Northwoods so that they can price their new '532 MHz' CPUs in the same range as their current P4As.
