Hi,

I need to pick up PC's for work and i have a choice between HP and IBM, the motherboard choices are Intel chipset 845 and the 865.. what's the difference between the two and which one should i go for? I don't know much about Intel computers as I have an AMD system myself and while i would love to go the AMD route for the work PC's both IBM and HP in India don't have any in their lineup.

Please advice...

The 845 chipset is an older chipset that uses single channel memory. The 865 chipset uses dual channel memory, so out of the 2 you should get one that uses the 865 chipset.

Can I suggest looking at the HP d325 too :) nForce2 / AthlonXP with onboard dual-head GeForce4MX video. Make your money go a little farther, perhaps. We got three of them in at work, and they seem pretty satisfactory for a Happy Meal? computer.

The 865 chipset is superior to the 845 in every way, I've seen 865 models as low as 65 dollars as well.

Though not factory built, I'm on a Happy Meal MSI K7N2G w/ IGP and a TBred 1700, 512 PC2700 dc, DVDRW, and an NEC 1530V 15" lcd. Had the case and slapped the rest together for about $400 on used buys. More than satisfied for a work comp.
