I could see Intel releasing it, but not with that boost clock though. Would indeed be the appropriate name for the rumoured 8C

I like the idea, but I'm not sure about the price, based on the speculated $425 from the AT article. For $429 I can buy a delidded 8700K that's guaranteed to 5 GHz and I'm guessing that this thing has the usual Intel TIM that needs to be replaced for serious overclocking.

Maybe it's worthwhile if they've been saving these up for a while as the best of the best that can be pushed even higher than most 8700K parts.

I do like the sweepstakes idea and giving away 8,086 different CPUs: https://game.intel.com/8086sweepstakes/ A little under two and a half days before sign-up starts.

The anniversary parts might be better binned. For $429 you're just buying a delided part and avoiding the worst 12% chips. On the other hand, we'll have to wait and see what retailers think of that $425 recommended price tag :)

Limited edition. I'm sure there will be gouging.

Boo at intel for leaving most of the world outside of the sweepstakes. Especially the poor countries. Boooooo

I'm feeling a bit of irrational lust for this CPU, even though I have my 8700K delidded and running 5.1GHz 24/7. Does anyone think these cherry-picked chips will have a bit more headroom with conventional (air/water) cooling?

They probably do, or perhaps a better way of phrasing it would be that if you buy one of these, your odds of being able to hit 5.3 GHz are substantially better than buying a 8700K.

The AT article mentioned that some company that sells delidded chips was buying a bunch, so we'll probably know how much better the bin is when they get them delivered and overclocked.

I had looked at Silicon Lottery's website earlier today and they had a 8700K bin of 5.3 which is now removed. It only said 3% of chips got that high (with -2 AVX offset) so it's pretty rare. The 8086K might have a better shot of getting that high.
