Would it be a wise choice to buy a Intel Core i5-3570K at this time to use for video and photo editing? I am not heavily into video editing but do it from time to time. I mostly do photography work with editing. Of course a good motherboard helps. Are there better choices for the money?

Why not buy a 4690K? The 3570K is replaced. So unless its much cheaper or something?

Same applies for motherboards, 2 chipset series since and a new CPU socket.

I bought my 3570K in 2012. I would recommend buying a current-generation chip, unless you can get it used at a very good price.

An i7 would be even better, but more expensive. Do you plan to overclock?

I don't really need to overclock. (at least I don't think so). My current processor is getting old it was an I5 760 Lynnfield Quad core.
I am thinking a new I5 would be fine depending on price difference from an I7. A good motherboard would be a big help.

The only (major) difference between an i5 4690K and an i5 4690 is that one is more expensive, and has unlocked multipliers so you can overclock.

What features do you need from your motherboard? The major difference between Z97 and H97 chipsets is the Z chipset allows overclocking, and costs more. Cheaper boards with B85 or even H81 chipsets generally have fewer USB and SATA ports and cheaper onboard audio solutions.

i7 has hyperthreading, which is worth in the area of 30-60% more performance if what you're doing can saturate 8 threads.

Thanks for the information. I have other questions but not sure where to put them. They have to do with other components in new build.????

One question: Is there any reasons to get one or the other 8gb of memory :

8gb (4 x 2gb) 240 pin DDR3 SDRAM or 8gb (2 x4gb) 240 pin DDR3 SDRAM. Is 4 or 2 sticks of memory better?
