Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 - 45nm too hot?

Hello,
I have a Intel Core2 quad (2.6ghz 45nm) running on a Abit IP35 Pro with a Scythe Katana II HSF. When I booted up the PC for the first few times I was getting a continuous beeping which I attribute to the "temp warning" in the bios. I checked and I was getting crazy temps first it was 110 C then it would be 1 C.

I did some research and read that the the temp sensor is inaccurate with 45nm cpu's.

So I installed Realtemp and I am getting ~30-34 C for the 4 cores.

I am concerned though. Is that true about 45nm's sensors are off? I have built quiet a few PC's and I am 99% sure the HSF is sitting properly..

Any insights?

Are these temps with a load or idol? If idol, put a load on it and this would be a better idea of what you really have for temps. Idol temps are not as important, Its the load temps you have to watch.

I have my x3350 at 3.6 with 1.28 v real. my load temps are currently 64/57/59/57 in a 25c ambient. idle temps are 48/42/46/44. this is with my tuniq fan running at 1350 rpm. if you're in the mid 30's idle at stock then you're doing great imho. oops, forgot to mention that I have tjmax set as 95c in realtemp 2.60.

edit: realtemp has, from what I've seen, proven to be far and away the best temperature measurement tool for core2-based cpus, especially 45nm's. keep in mind, however, that even unclewebb had to guess at tjmax. that's why he lets you adjust tjmax, many knowledgeable people have difficulty agreeing on what the actual tjmax is. The best way to measure temps is distance to tjmax b/c that is the actual reading that realtemp, coretemp, speedfan, etc get from the cpu diode. intel refuses to post actual tjmax figures for core2-based cpus for some idiotic reason.

What BIOS version? You need version 16 or newer for that motherboard to operate correctly with 45nm quads.

As mentioned, idle temperatures don't mean anything. Put it under load with a stress test program.

I just flashed the bios to V17 and it seems to be accurate in the bios now. Thank you all for your help.
