Intel Core 2 Extreme or Core 2 Quad? Which to buy?

Hi folks,

doing a new build/upgrade from what I currently have.

the machine will be used for FPS gaming, Photoshop, and video editing(rendering)

I am very confused with the Intel's as I am a longtime AMD user, but these new Intel's are incredible and I want one!

Do I look at a super fast Core 2 Extreme, or the cheaper Core 2 Quad(like the Q6700)?

any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I think the dual core will be faster for gaming, and more than sufficient for the other apps.

BTW - your specs look perfectly fine to me. You might not notice a big difference in performance.

IMO, you should wait another year. You might be able to double your rig's performance then, and the new CPU's/GPU's and chipsets will be out by then. The current ones are based on a 1 year old architecture.

Might as well go for a quad core since it can overclock pretty well if you decide to. You could wait a year, but the opportunity cost of that is that you wont have a sweet rig for another year.
