I would like to add that it's a great value if you plan to overclock. It has an 8x multiplier, so you can easily pull off 3.2ghz with ddr2 800 value ram. I run mine at 3.4ghz 24/7 with only 1.375V.

I think what the OP wanted to know is why the e6400 with 2MB is $205 while the e6420 with 4MB is cheaper at $186.00. That's what I would like to know as well. Something to do with steppings ?

Both the E6400 and E6420 have 8x multipliers. True the E6420 has 4MB L2 with the E6400 only having 2MB.
I'd say the biggest reason for the price difference is "supply".

BTW, If you're spending around $200, you might as well go for the E6750 @ $207 shipped.
2.66GHz. on a 1333MHz FSB and 4MB of L2... :thumbsup::laugh:

Might be that they stopped producing 6400's and quantities are running low. And 6420's are plentiful. Possibly.

OK, but the e6400 is in stock and listed at $205 which implies that (some) people are willing to pay that much. The real question I guess is : why are they not buying the e6420 instead ?

Multiple answers to multiple questions, apply in any order you want: People are idiots and Intel didn't lower the price on the e6400 on purpose.

More cache = less chance of OC since there is more (stuff) to hold it back. ???? Just a guess.

Kinda like in the Celeron 266-300 days. Same core as the P2 or 3 but 1/4th the cache and over clocking demons.
