I know it's recommended to use the XP supplied drivers for AMD processor-based chipsets, but what about Intel chipsets? Should I use the XP drivers or go to Intel's site and find drivers there. I have an ASUS CUSL2 mobo (815 chipset). I did a few forum searches. It doesn't look like this has been asked before.

Thanks bud. I figured it would be OK, but I was hoping to hear from someone that had done it before. It's very late and I'm very polluted (Crown and Coke...Mmmmmm). Sounds like a good time to format and install XP Pro!! Wish me luck! Yeehaw! :D

WinXP includes full support for the i815E chipset on the ASUS CUSL2 board.

There is no need to install the Intel Chipset Inf drivers, but you can if you really want to.

The chipset inf drivers don't really have much to do with performance, and all they are really used for is chipset recognition. The last several versions simply add recognition for newer chipsets....they don't address chipset problems or issues.

I had tried installing the latest chipset driver in XP but the OS told me that it was already installed!

I had just installed a new Celeron 1.2 ghz Tualation with
a Soyo TISU MB. OS is Win98. Of course, I knew that Win98
didn't have the 815 (B-stepping) chipset inf's so I downloaded
and installed the latest from Intel. I got nothing but locks/halts/
BSODs.........Did a clean intall, used the new inf's, same thing happened.
Did another clean install (with Win98) and used 98's default drivers......
Runs rock solid....go figure.......
