Intel changes Springdale specifications (DDR400, 800MHz FSB)

Ummm... I get the feeling that there will be a DDR400 specification soon.

I guess I'll hold off on any new ram purchases for awhile

Looks good to me. I might just skip the E7205 and go straight to Springdale-P.

You may not be alone.
Take a look here.
Is Granite Bay dead before it starts?
Posted on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 by David

I have spoken to 2 companies today about this product and they have just told me the same thing - they are not doing it. These companies are ABIT and EPOX. The Epox solution might not come as such a shock but the ABIT sure is interesting - they had shown pictures of there solution the GBX MAX range and we had been talking to them about solutions.

ABIT have left it for a few reasons, it isn't the latest technology - Dual Channel has been around for a while, and the performance doesn?t warrant the cost. ABIT and Intel discussed the product and they are going to aim for Springdale. Granite Bay is not featuring on many companiess Desktop or Workstation board but more of a server solution. It will be interesting if we even see Granite Bay on retail shelves. We know that MSI have been sampling solutions so has DFI - we have both in house. I am personally shocked over ABITs decision as we were depending on them in house to make an 'overclockers' board. There are other manufacturers whom are creating the boards - DFI, IWill, ASUS, FiC, Tyan, Gigabyte. We have not yet had confirmation from other manufacturers but we will keep you up to date.

The biggest talking point is that the chipset isn't being adopted by 2 of the big plays in the desktop arena - the server side (Tyan etc) should be another story. With the chipset only having a short time on the Intel line-up I wonder what the outcome will be? I have also heard Intel do not have high supply of the chipsets - thus slowing down the process.

Update:
Apparently it is all up in arms at the moment - they have samples ready and working. But they are still trying to establish if there is a market or a need for the product. I think it might be a bit of a risk that is why there is the hold off. Another company stated that MSI was doubtful over the product release as well and are unsure if retail boards will hit.

So - there we have it - some scoop for you guys today!
Seems some mfgrs are going to hold out till Sprindale??

Previously, DDR400 memory had been regarded as a transitional product before the industry moved to DDRII. Now, with the chip giant adopting the standard, demand for DDR400 memory is expected to soar.

lol even though rdram appears dead...my rdram system performance, after death, has never been better!!

Great just as i finally buy my new cpu/mobo/ram combo (P4 2.53/Asus P4T533/2x256MB 4200 RIMM), the whole freaking system becomes obselete the next day (bought the CPU and mobo last nite and ram last week) 🙁

Well atleast it would be an improvement over my current setup!

lol your computer is VERY DISTANT from being obsolete. you would be 'hard-pressed' to build a faster computer @ this point in time...

That's my plan too,by this time we will have intergrated Serial ATA & hopefully the HD's will be out too.

I know I am gonna get flamed, but why don't we blow our money on our girlfriends instead!? 😛

Get a faster girl instead of a computer, or if they are the same thing for you, go for it! j/k 😀

Not everybody has a girlfriend. 🙁

Send me your girlfriend & i will blow my money on your girlfriend.😉

I might just spring for the SIS 655 based boards as an interim solution. Cheaper than GB but still supports DDR333.

>flamebait<

Since Intel stuff seems to become obsolete already before its launched, why dont you all just switch to AMD... that way you know your system will be ok for at least a year! 🙂

(you do see the smiley, right!)

At least Intel is trying by releasing new stuff, unlike AMD.😉

Move from 400mhz to 533mhz 33% Bandwith Increase - Launched

Move from 533mhz to 667mhz 25% Bandwith Increase - Skipped

Move from 667mhz to 800mhz 20% Bandwith Increase - Skipped

Move from 533mhz to 800mhz 50% Bandwith Increase - Coming Soon

Intel is really planning to crank up the FSB bandwith :Q
JDEC can't ratify PC3200 DDR-SDRAM fast enough in my opinion!
This is some of the best news I've seen from Comdex and I heard it from AT first!
Good job Anand!!

I do have to say I am extremely disappointed in Granite Bay - not the performance - about as expected, but in the level of adoption. No Dell P4, no Gateway - very low commercial adoption. Its clear Intel is pushing the jump from Rambus to Springdale for standard desktops. Oh well - guess I'll wait 6 more months.
