So I've got a Dell Latitude D600 with the Intel Centrino 1.4ghz and 512mb of RAM. Is it possible to do any overclocking? Also...what would I do as far as cooling a laptop goes?

Are there any references I can read for overclocking the centrino chip and cooling in laptops?

The only overclocking i've done has been just a little bit on AMD chips. The Dell Bios doesn't allow for overclocking.

Although it's a very sweet chip, you just can't overclock laptops. A few people around here have even tried.:(

Not strictly true :) if you have a laptop that allows both 400 and 533fsb chips you can break off the bsel1 pin to get the board to recognise it as a 533 part. With the newer dothan parts this might be possible with the lower speed chips, but it all depends on yields.

be careful, dell has a tendecy to do bare minimal cooling. my P3 dell didn't even have any kind of paste, just metal on die with a not so tight clip system. the fans were always running, so i applied arctic silver 5 to it and now it takes almost 5 times longer for the temp to build up on the die and the fans are rarely on now

gotta set one thing straight here. You do not have a 'Centrino' chip. there is no such thing. Centrino is more of a marketing gimmick by intel than anything else. All it means is that you have a certain intel cpu, chipset, and wireless adaptor in your computer. the actual cpu you have is an intel pentium m.

hmm, well. Centrino is just a marketing name for a specified list of components. For it to qualify as centrino it has to have a few specific items:

intel pentium M mobile processor
motherboard using intel 855 chipset
intel pro wireless network connection

I am not sure if there is anything else.

Crappy performance?

Centrinos handly defeat the desktop processors. Centrino is a technology not a CPU. The CPU is a

Pentium-M and the M/B is and 865. It has to have the ability to use the intel pro ethernet and wireless

802.11b. To say it plain and simple Centrino easily defeats all others in mobile technology. For that

matrer mobile gaming too.
