Why not? It's fun to play with, and having a spare CPU for an emergency/testing purpose doesn't hurt. :p

Wolfdale core, higher MHz and double cache for same price? Woot!

And then Intel takes away the budget CPU market back from AMD.

Looking at the big picture this really blows for us consumers. Unless AMD drops prices on Phenom/Athlon X2s, we're screwed.

This is not a "celeron", in the same way the new e6300 is not a "pentium"

It does look impressive if E3200 hits a low enough price. But is someone still buying a chip like this? The performance isn't actually that great compared to a X2 7850 which isn't exactly expensive either. I guess this is a chip for the HTPC crowd though. Intel does have great low power platforms even though price/performance will probably still stay with AMD.

Ooo, the Celeron E3000 has VT support, x64 and NX support. Hello cheap Hyper-V server*!

*To play with at home, not for production use :)

What's the pricing going to be on this? I can't find it in the review anymore.

XbitLabs report 53$ for 3300 & 43$ for 3200. (same as the old 65nm models)
I don't know if this is correct or not.
If it is then very bad news for AMD indeed!

Right now the price for 3200 tray is around 4-5euros incuding VAT (around 5-6$) more than 1500 tray, but this is logical in this early state (and with this perf. difference)!

Yeah that's pretty impressive for the E3300 Celly to hit 4GHz. Is ~1.6v too high for everyday use though?

And even at $53, AMD has no answer. Their best low-end processor is the Athlon II X2 240 2.8GHz Regor and that's $60.99 from Newegg.

yh125d is right on.

E6300 is not that much behind E8600 in gaming once they run at the same speed. Winrar is about the only application in the tests linked below where the difference will be felt.

Madshrimps E6300 @ 3.33ghz

Madshrimps E6300 @ 4.0ghz

Probably not, but most people don't care. Why would you buy a bottom-of-the-barrel processor to run VMWare?

VMWare is going to get more popular with Win7.

I don't get it. While the E3300 seems like a decent budget cpu, the E5200 at only $13 more beats it handily it in gaming applications. The E5200 should overclock about the same as the E3300, and has the same mutliplier.

Also the Athlon II X2 240 is only $8 more and is a little better than the E5200. It seems to overclock as good as E5xxx Wolfdale, getting close to 4GHz.

So $53 doesn't seem that good to me. If I needed a cpu for an HTPC, the X2 45w version can be had for $42. While not as fast as the E3300, it's still cheaper and more than enough performance.

What makes you say that?

Faster, uses less than half the electricity, and costs only $11 more sounds to me like the E3300 is the only CPU anyone should even consider for an HTPC. For gaming, though, I agree.

Perhaps the Windows XP mode for backwards compatibility, which requires/leverages HW Virtualization, would be a better reason (than vmware). You can say that this isn't the target CPU for that scenario, and that's fine, but, I was just asking.
