Really? I mean REALLY? Just Watch Zen 2 TR put on a beating on this new Cascade Lake-X HEDT processors.

Edit.. Soon to be released R9 3950X "Mainstream" CPU is enough to beat the 18C/36T Cascade Lake X HEDT(at least in CB and Geekbench) in Price Performance, so unless Intel plans to sell those 18C/36T HEDT for less than $700 I just don't see how this is even worth making a presentation slide.

What a change of heart with pricing :)

At one point Intel marketing tried to shove enthusiasts to X299 platform by releasing 4C unlocked CPUs as "entry point" for enthusiast platform and also nerfing PCIE counts for lower core count SKL-X CPUs. I bet these guys had black belt in artificial market segmentation and got a bonus or rise for this ingenious plan to milk customers further, by forcing customers to buy X299 platform. It is actually sad that Ryzen showed early and was so strong that they were not able to implement second step of their plan - ceasing to release K cpus for mainstream platform.

Now in the twist of the fate Intel actually needs HEDT to fight the ZEN2 monster and they have to price it according to AMD desktop platform. That must be a gravest possible insult for those marketing black belt guys mentioned above. I really hope AMD will turn the knife with properly executed TR2 reveal a day before Intel's NDA ends, now that would properly end 14nm era for Intel.

It will be interesting to see what is Intel's idea of "aggressive" pricing.

@JoeRambo

Sadly for Intel, the end of their 14nm era isn't quite yet here since they can't reliably manufacture on any smaller node. It may just be the end of a majority of the computer enthusiast scene caring about their hardware.

It's written right there in that slide. Take current prices, divide by ~2 to get new price. It is competitive pricing, but the Intel HEDT has two problems (hint, they are named 3900x and 3950x)

Considering how much faster Zen2 (3000 series) is about Zen+, by their own charts, they will be loosing, if threadripper 3000's are what we think they are going to be. I can't wait for the benchmarks !

So the 18C/36T part will be around $900? I would really love to see that, By the time it comes out it will be most likely bench against the 3950X because Zen 2 TR will be released about 1st Q 2020, but even Gimped(Dual Channel, 40 lanes) 3950X will edge out that power hungry chip

Hopefully it’s true, the price of the 9980XE (and the rest of the lineup) is already absurd vis-a-vid the competition.

Probably more, it's "price/performance" in the slide, and range topping part will be priced higher for sure. But Intel will surely drop prices 30-50%.

Hopefully it’s true, the price of the 9980XE (and the rest of the lineup) is already absurd vis-a-vid the competition.

The (personal) irony is that we had to recently buy one at that ridiculous price, cause our special snowflake software is not supporting AMD CPUs properly. Intel's massive developer army built libs and tools generates sales for them sometimes.

Doesn't TR 3º Gen launch next week?
If it ends being as fast as we all expect this new Intel launch will be DOA. Even if Intel does the unimaginable with unbelievable low prices wouldn't still be very hard to compete?
I can not believe that Intel made this mistake.

I think they will be available POSSIBLY Nov-Dec, but I heard other rumors Q1 2020.

Thats OK, they will be crushed soon no matter what.

Ooooh, that "R9 3950X" is NOT a Threadripper.
Because of the core counts I automatically forgot that it was a general consumer CPU.

Well, the 3900x MIGHT beat it, but 12 cores vs 18 ? I think we need at least 1 16 core Threadripper 3000 series to crush it.

I mean, I guess? The new Cascade Lake-X chips may have slightly higher clocks than Skylake-X. Also the slide has variance between 1.74x and 2x. All that should be certain is that Intel won't be able to sell many if they keep charging ~$1900 for their 18c part.

The cynic in me expects Intel to use only according "real world usage" performance benchmarks to achieve the superior price/performance ratio.

That would actually be even more impressive...think about it,reaching this higher ratio without using the cheap trick of just having more cores/threads (being better only in heavily multithreaded stuff) is much more difficult.

According to their slide their basis is 16C SKL being 30% faster (and 2.06x more expensive) than a 2950X, wich is on point if the former is overclocked at 4.4GHz (in CB R20...)..

As ridiculous as their current e-ads wich display an Intel logo with the only text being "request Intel"....

He is talking about the R9 3950X which with it's 16C/32T is beating Intels current 18C/36T HEDT Processors, but the 3900X is enough for their 10 Core HEDT/Consumer processors.

I forgot that there was a 3950X coming out. Geez yeah Amd is going to rock the house when that 3950X comes out. Will be fun to see what a 9900KS does against this thing. Since both are drop in compatible with mainstream. Both kind of need premium motherboards though. Not like a el cheapo board has the vrms to run either chip.

Clearly Intel wants people to see Cascade Lake-X in comparison to last year's TR products . . . not anything else. I still think the 2990WX will stack up pretty well in MT tasks. Not that it will matter.
