Intel C533 stock heatsink vs GlobalWin CPM32?

Hi guyz...
I have a C533(non Cumine) with the stock heatsink that I would like to replace with a Globalwin CPM32 I have lying around. From Anand's latest Socket heatsink review, the intel heatsink with the stock thermal pad lost to the RDJD P715, but with thermal grease, it actually outperformed the P715.

Over at hardwarecentral's FC-PGA heatsink review, they list the performance of the P715 as greater than th CPM32. Doesn't this mean that the intel stock heatsink will work better than the CPM32 if thermal grease is applied?

Just wanted to find out before I start messin around...

P/S my BH6 only supports mobo temp monitoring and not CPU temp monitoring so I can't just try it myself to find out which performs better.

http://www.2cooltek.com/socket_test.html 2cooltek has tests for a stock intel socket heatsink and a Gobalwin CMP-32 and the Globalwin beat it but not by much. I'm not sure which stock Intel heatsink it is though. From the picture, it looks smaller than the stock heatsink that came with my C566.

I have both heatsinks just sitting here but no way of testing them cause I have a BH6 also.

Here's 2Cool's heatsink test page for socket heatsinks: http://www.2cooltek.com/socket_test.html. I think he tested the Intel heatsink using the same methodology as the rest, meaning with thermal paste rather than the pad. By the way, stock Intel Celeron heatsinks come in different sizes depending on the CPU's MHz rating, I believe, so take 2Cool's numbers with a grain of salt, since the heatsink he tested could be one of the smaller ones.

edit: DOH! Spencer beat me to it :p

Goi, I compared my Global Win cpm-32 to my fdp32 & my Alpha. It ran only 2-3degrees C higher than the 2 better H/S's. I don't think the stock Intel would do that well.

When I first got my C500 I used the cpm-32 to run it at 625mhz @2.2 volts.Good little H/S

Wow, thanks for the info spencer/mechbgon. I was over at 2CoolTek's page and indeed he didn't say which stock intel heatsink it was. The one he used seems to be smaller than the one I have. I have the C533 stock heatsink, which Anandtech tested. I didn't notice the brand of the fan, but the Anandtech reviewer said it was a Nidec fan. Over at 2cooltek the reviewer said his intel stock heatsink fan was a Sanyo Denki, so maybe its different.

I do have a C433 that has a heatsink that looks closer to the one 2cooltek tested. Its smaller than the C533 one that I have.

Toro, are you sure your CPM32 compared so favorably against the Alphas? That seems incredible for such an old cooler. What setup and situation did you test them at? The CPM32 was indeed a good little heatsink, in fact it was the best of its time(I believe it was rated at 0.5K/W when all the rest of the market was near or above 1K/W) but I don't know about it comparing so favorably with an Alpha though...

Ya, I noticed the heatsink 2cool tested had a different fan than my stock Cel566 heatsink which has a Nidec fan. I'm pretty sure the heatsink that came with my retail Cel 300 has a Sanyo Denki fan and it looks more like the one 2cool tested than the Cel566 heatsink I have.

Well, I already emailed 2Cooltek regarding this, asking which intel stock heatsink they actually tested. Hopefully they'll get back to me.

Anyway, where can I find information about how much power/heat my CPU uses? Intel has a page which lists the power/heat ratings of each of its CPUs, but for the life of me I can't find it.

Running Burn P6
Soyo6BA+IV
C366@550
2.0volts
Case temp30c. Alpha 44c
Case temp30c. FDP32 45c
Case temp29c. G/W 47c
When I checked my notes I must have looked at only the cpu temps & not the Mobo temp. My post should have read "3-4 degrees C higher".Still not bad considering the company.

Wow...that's great news. I wonder why the hardwarecentral and 2cooltek reviews rate the CPM32 that low though. Hmmn...
Anyway, I guess I'll pop the CPM32 from my P200MMX to my C533 and give it a shot! :)

Wow...the CPM32 does seem cooler. I replaced my stock intel heatsink and after a while, I felt the heatsink with my hand and it wasn't even warm to the touch. The stock intel heatsink would at least be warm.

Then again, I also put back my self made 80mm slot cooler, so that might have lowered the ambient case temperature(from 38-39C to 32-33C), causing CPU temp to go down as well...

Now all I need are those blowholes :)

That case temp is good news ,probably like you said the slot cooler being the factor. I've never have used a retail intel h/s but I have tried several aftermarket coolers & have always been impressed how the cpm 32 compares.
Seems like most of the expensive ones are overkill unless your running higher than normal voltages.

Well, I wasn't aiming for any extreme overclocking since its only a Mendocino C533, so 600 is probably the highest it'll go. But still, I'd like it to be as cool as possible, and the CPM32 coupled with the slot fan seems to be doing a great job together...of course along with my numerous other case fans :)
