Considering an Intel MOBO.

D865PERL

Anybody have experience here? What RAM did you use? I only find ONE thread in the past on this board.

Why not get this one, or why... advise on a differing board?

Intel boards are rock solid and offer excellent stock performance, but limited/completely lacking in overclocking features. That's the only reason you don't see many posts about them :)

I understand!

Im looking for a board to match with:

Intel Pentium 4/ 2.8E GHz 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology - OEM

and

CORSAIR XMS, Xtra-Low Latency 2-2-2-5, 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200, Model TWINX1024-3200XLPRO -

Any advice would rock. Ive only built one system and it was Athlon, so - new socket... new world!

THANKS!

Heres where I run into problems! Theres alot of reputable boards and board makers. Im not CRAZY into OCing, but Ill certainly do the few conservative things that will logically get some speed out of the gear I have already.

Can anybody tell me the what and why of the specific processor they recommend would go well with the Proc and RAM Ive chosen above?

How can I know that the board you suggest will be fully compatable with the RAM?

Id rather get the OEM processor and buy a superior HSF combo seperately. I like the Zalman CNPS7000A Ive chosen, and I like the Antec Overture case Ive chosen. Am I heading for trouble here?

Thanks again for all the advice!

Your choices are great, but since you plan to overclock moderately the retail cooler is fine. For the board I'd probably get the Asus P4P800-E Deluxe to go along with the rest.

i have the d865perlx and im liking it. i didnt get it for with the intent of overclocking, i just wanted a stable board and i also heard the onboard sound is good. its been rock solid since the start.

here are my specs:
2.8C P4
Intel d865perlx
Kingston ram - was on intel's list of compatible ram for this mobo

its not known for its ability to overclock so dont go with this board if you're going to. the ones suggeted above are good. the retail p4 fan is not the quietest, but does its job at cooling very nicely. my temps stay pretty constant at 36c and never go beyond 40.
