depends on what you want to do..stock performance dosent make much difference..all x58 boards perform the same....
intel board is not 100% solid caps..if overclocking is in your future choose another board.

Will most likely NOT OC and looking for something to run stable and quiet. I will be using the total PC for gaming and to run Boxee.

It's not a stellar overclocker but it does OK. If it's feature set fits your needs, it is a quite stable piece, but there are better options out there for the enthusiast.

Any recommendations along with staying within this same price range?

I would step down to the 1156 chipset (use a core i5) and go with either a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130292 Yet the Msi is a lot more money.
My brother-in-law can get my the i7 920 for $100 so it's kinda hard to pass up, but at the same time the MB's for that cpu are also a lot more.

Unless the board is broken in some way, if you are not overclocking then they are pretty much ALL stable and quiet.

I actually do not like the layout of the Intel board, so I would pass on it for that reason alone.

There are a number of socket 1366 boards in the $200 and under range that should suffice (unless you want it featured-out).

Nothing "featured" out...Would be nice to have usb 3.0 tho. Cheaper the better of course haha. I'm looking to stay under $900 .US with my system. I can either get a i7 920 for fairly cheap and spend slightly more on a MB, or go with the 1156 socket and get an i5...trying to figure the cheapest way overall.

I love mine. Rock solid stable and the layout was the best for me. I got a sound card, tv tuner card, dual slot gtx 470, 6gb ram, and a megahalems all on this board. Thats alot of stuff on one board. Not the greatest overclocker but it'll get you a solid overclock if needed. The bios has gotten much better with the latest updates. I would recommend this board to anyone. Just as every bit as good as my gigabyte x58 board.

I heard some bad things about Intel dropping the support for triple memory channel down to only dual channel on this board for compatibility reasons? Does anyone know if this is true?

Also the original or earliest boards had a Sigmatel onboard audio codec but the later versions have a Realtek.

I haven't been able to determine how you tell the difference. (Skull on the motherboard for originals?)

Looked up the DX58SO - doesn't look too bad, but at that price and no usb 3.0?

It's a good board. If you want cheap buy a biostar, ecs, or asrock. I buy quality parts for my rigs and have been enjoying trouble free computing. This build is over a year old now without a hiccup.

not saying it's a cheap board, was just referring to the price and not getting usb 3.0. I've seen giga MB's for $205 with usb 3.0 and sata III. If I'm going to spend $200+ it'd be nice to get at least usb 3.0. I might have to change my thoughts on the socket to save some money...

Intel designs the boards once and doesn't make any changes to them other than possible drop in replacements i.e. swapping Sigmatel audio chip for Realtek when Sigmatel (IDT) stopped making them.

Also, I found the issue with this board in regards to dual / triple channel. Apparently since it only includes 4 RAM slots people thought you needed 2 chips per channel hence 6 for triple channel and didn't realize you only need a single memory slot X 3 for triple channel.

Almost every other x58 board has 6X memory slots, however.
