Intel Being Sued for P4 Performance

Tahts what you get if you put morons and easily accessible lawyers.

While we're at it, lets sue Kliptsch. Obviously their RMS wattage ratings are inflated compared to some of the other speaker brands. Or lets sue Ford, their horsepower ratings are inflated compared to a Porsche.

Hey lets sue via and other athlon mobo makers for perpetuating the scam of kt333 and kt400 mobos that offer no real performance why the amd chip is still locked at 266fsb...It only produces 2.1gb/s of bandwidth yet these guys sell these next boards claiming real performance increase when it is mildly to nothing. What good is pc2700 (333) when it produces more then the 266fsb of the athlon can??? What good will pc3200 (400mhz) be??? That is like 50 percent more wasted...Anandtech as commented on this for almost a year now.

Hey lets also throw in harddrive manufacturers as well...ATA100...Yeah right!!! We get sustained transfer rates just above ata33 claimed speeds....And now ATA133!!! LOL

Intel's change was a radical redesign of the processor which by lengthening the pipeline suffered worse performance at slower speeds compared to the p3 yet if it didn't change would have never reached the heights it is today...and now undisputed king...It would be where amd is and running into the wall with ramping up of the athlon...

The fact is a a p4 optimised with sse2 will be faster then a p3 in apps using it...They should have just came ut with the p4 1.5 and left it at that...no 1.3 or 1.4 that muddied the waters a bit.

I have to admit while the lawsuit isnt filed by amd it does seem pathetic IMO on them commenting on any of it like the little kid whining to mom or the teacher...

This is a clear case of unethical behavior. Companies misrepresenting products to get sales. We know about this performance issue because we are technical people, most people can't begin to comprehend it. The computer industry wants just to sell computers, so every year they emphasize in their marketing better performance. A lot of people out there buys 'faster' computers for a hefty amount of $$ when compared to just upgrading their current systems, just to realize there isn't such a marked difference. Has anyone noticed how companies like Dell and Compaq does not focus on upgrading at all? And also the products that they sell are made to actually hamper upgrades.

I think this case missed the window by a few months. If you look at the benches (dig'em up, don't be lazy) on P4 2.53/533 vs PIII 1.0/133 you will find they match EXACTLY clock per clock.
In fact the P4 is 2.48 times faster in Q3A. how uncanny is that?

So I think the litigators here are going to have a pretty tough time proving any wrongdoing in Intella's part.

Especially with HT about to kick in, P4 will be faster than PIII clock per clock. (at least in some apps)

Now, don't get me wrong, I hate P4 as much as the next guy, but seriously -- wtf? legally forcing the Chipzilla to say "slower than PIII" in commercials? capitalism will grind to a halt ! the goddamn russian are going to take over! come on now!

Obviously you dont own a Dell, I cant say much about a Compaq. I have a Dimension 4500 series. It is 100% upgradeable, 5 or so PCI 1 AGP 4X, 2 DIMM (standard with most 845E boards), 2 x 5.25" bays, 2 x 3.5" bays, 2 HDD interior bays, support for 533FSB Pentium 4's. I dont know wtf you're smoking when you say unupgradeable. The only people whining about unupgradeablility bought the i845GL with no AGP slot. No where in the commercials do you see "Pentium4's are faster than Pentium3's clock for clock". They just say the computers are *fast*, no numbers at all. The average comsumer is too stupid to know clock speed is not the sole determinant, and they are too stupid to even want to learn that fact. Its not like these benchmarks are hidden on the Internet, its widely available to everyone.

I think it is pretty damn unethical for Logitech/Kliptsch to say 400W RMS when people blow their subs after about 1 day of intensive high volume/high bass use, for the Klips, its not even a real 400W RMS.
