Intel based recommendation? Board/CPU/Cooler

Let me start out by saying I have a Ryzen 7 1700 system that I believe has taken a nose dive. (motherboard and or cpu)

I have 32GB of DDR 3200 ram that I'd like to re-use if possible.

Looking for a motherboard and chip combo recommendation that'll get me back on the Intel side of things and with a much faster system. Also an aftermarket cooler thrown in the mix please, not afraid to do a little overclocking. Mainly using this system for games and gaming.

Price range $350-$550 all combined.

Your budget needs beefing too perhaps .
You say mild o/c ?
Look at the i7 8700K, ~ $360
Asus Prime z-390-A~ $250 ( there is some criticism of this board as an o/c , but I can mildly o/c it no problem).
Noctua NH D15S ~ $100.

There is also a thought that once AMD has their new processors for sale, Intel will drop prices. So wait for that event, should happen in a few weeks.

Intel chip prices still seem to be high. The cheapest 8700k I can find used is on eBay is $275. New they are $350. Someone is dumping 8700k ES chips on eBay as well for $300 . . . not recommended.

You can get a new 9700k for about the same price as an 8700k, so I'm not sure why you would get the 8700k anyway.

Anyway if you pick a 9700k, this is your motherboard selection in your stated price range (more or less; I have omitted Z370 but you can look into those as well):

Not counting tax where applicable.

Alternatively you can get that $275 used 8700k (plus shipping bleh) and here are your board options:

Personally I would be looking at the Asrock z390 Extreme 4, maybe. Beware VRM overheating if you put a 9900k in there, or at least make the commitment to tune voltages by hand (offsets). I've seen it suffer VRM overheat in some reviews. Not with a 9700k or 8700k though.
