The intel is really more for stability and less OCing. The asus is apparently great for OCing, but the company doesn't have a great rep in stability.

Asus stability is much better than Abit and some others available.

I've owed multiple Asus boards (including the P5W DH), and never had a problem. Maybe I just got lucky.

Read the threads on p5w-dh, you may want to wait for the next round of mobo's.....

There seems to be a wall at 370fsb that alot of ppl. are hitting.. not sure if it's the mobo or cpu..

If you don't mind a little bleeding then get a mobo right now, otherwise wait a month for some more mature boards.

Regards,
Jose

Read about the M2N-E and tell me if you still think ASUS's stability is amazing.

I've actually assembled and used the system with that board in it. IT BLOWS HARDCORE.

Don't tell me ASUS is all wonderful.

SO because YOU had trouble with ONE board the company suddenly sucks? Give me a freaken break.

I bet you think OCZ memory is crap because it is having some trouble with new motherboards...

Yeah, the E6600 users are hitting a wall lower than the E6300 & E6400 users with the P5W DH from what I'm hearing. Lower multipliers seem to do better than the E6600. Some of the E6400 users are able to hit 400+ FSB. It appears the E6600 isnt the overclocking dream many had hoped for despite which mobo you use with it.

EVERYONE had trouble with that mobo. It just sucked period and they still released it.

If that doesn't scream bad business ethics, I don't know what does.

Go visit the asus tech support forums. No one likes the board, it gave them all a shitload of trouble.

Btw, alot of people hate gigabyte boards because they had problems before and refused to fix it. ASUS hasn't done anything with their M2N-E, so I don't see why they deserve and special treatment. In my books, ASUS is not to be trusted. I worked in retail and service at a computer store. I know the trends and the problems people had in the past.

Jose: If you really want to get the board for stability. I say D975XBX. Intel's never failed me yet. Had a 1.6ghz northwood running on an intel board. Still going strong. Havn't heard any complaints about intel having bad problems with boards from anyone either.

If you want to overclock without doing mods, then get the P5W-DH.

If you want to overclock with hardware mods on the board, then get the D975XBX. The current world record overclock is held on a rev.302 D975XBX, at 5ghz or so with LN2 cooling.

edit: crosspost. Yeah, scott's right. e6600 and 6700 arn't ocing that great. However, the 4mb cache makes up the difference when you're doing superPI or DC work. The world records for those are actually in the 5ghz range as well, but I think they're ES revisions. Not sure.

It's the same damn thing. For one board you hate the company who produced some of the best motherboards I've ever used... P4P800, P4C800, I have worked with the P5B Deluxe, and the A8N-SLI which still remains one of the best socket 939 boards out there.

Oh no, don't get me wrong. Asus made some great products. I've used the P4P800SE and the A8N-E, and a few others that are too old to recall.

Problem is that the M2N-E was a serious screw up, and after that i've doubted the company's rep and products.

I wouldn't recommend ASUS to anyone, especially since I got burned so recently. Their tech support also seems to suck lately. They did nothing at all to help about the M2N-E. If you have to go ASUS, wait a few months... or years.

I'm just waiting for the Overclock King to produce it's Lanparty mobo.. That's right , DFI ... ;P

I've had over 30 Asus mobo's and they were good, but had all kind's of problems w/ the Asus NF4 mobo's.

So I've switched to DFI and have 4 of there NF4 mobo's and they are Perfect ... not one single problem..

So, I'll just wait till DFI comes out w/ their top of the line Landparty Series mobo..

Regards,
Jose

I'm on my 6th ASUS board w/ Intel chipset, and have never had any stability problems. It's all in the chipsets, baby! Going with an Intel CPU? Make sure you get a board with an Intel chipset. That would be my only advice.
