Intel BadAxe 2 mobo - HSF weight limit

I've read on several sites that the maimum weight of the heatsink for the Intel 775 mobos is 450g. However, lots of people seem to be using heavier (and in some cases significantly so) HSFs. Is this really Intel's official weight limit? Are there any real world test data that give the real weight limit?

I'm particularly interested in the Intel BadAxe 2 mobo.

I don't know about any "official" tests, but people have been exceeding that weight limit for a while. Even when certain boards are reviewed they have the big/heavy coolers on. I haven't heard of any problems with them though, except relating to fitting in a case physically, not concerning weight.

If a HSF has a good mounting device on it, I wouldn't see a big problem.

I ordered the Zalman 9500AT for my BX2.

The Zalman's that I'm looking at have a mounting plate. The Ninja has a push pin system that I'm less sure about.

What processor do you have on your BX2? How quiet is the Zalman compared to the stock HSF?

For those questions, I'll have the answers next week. That's when all my parts will be here. But I do have the 9500 for a C2D e6600. It comes with a back plate and the HSF screws onto that assembly. What's also cool is the 9500AT has the 4-pin PWM fan.

i think as long as you don't transport your case or are exceedingly careful in transporting it (like to lan parties etc) you won't have a problem

Would that be true with the Ninja as well? It's significantly heavier than the Zalman.

Honestly, I don't think you'll have a problem with the Ninja. It's a good cooler and I've never read of any problems. I'd just have to also agree with the quote above.
