I've heard people mention that on August 22nd, Intel will drop the prices of its northwood and prescott processors. Is this true? Are there any estimate figures by how much will they drop?

I have heard that they will drop the celeron prices because they saw the Sempron benchmarks and knew once again AMD was going to kick their butts in the low end sector with performance

The hell is EM64T?

EDIT: oooh, 64 bit extensions. So does that mean you'd need a different motherboard?

Thanks.
The price on the northwood 3.2 definetely would be a good deal.

This is good news, and AMD will doubtless be forced to react with a price cut of their own.

Exactly, now are these the Socket 478 versions or LGA775? That 3.4GHZ chip for $278.00 would be pretty sweet. Especially if I could overclock it to close to 4GHZ!

I was thinking the same thing, as a current p4c 3ghz owner. But the 3.6E is $120 more? $120 for 200mhz? Yikes. I'd say the 3.4E or 3.4C for $278 is a sweet deal.
