Intel Atom Z3580 benchmarks

Benchmarks of Atom Z3580 in Dell's Venue 8 7000 tablet. It fares ok compared with the rest of the ARM world, although not up there yet. Battery life is rather good also. I see no reason for it not being implemented in more devices...

Honestly I am a fan of Windows tablets, but I really see no reason to use atom to run an android tablet when there are so many others on the market.

GPU performance is pretty bad, so yes, that's an Intel product

it's using Android, but yes, I think Android might be a better choice for sub 10" and low specs anyway... (ram usage is better, seems to work better with small screens, and the storage requirements are lower).

No. The Z3xxx's use Intels Gen7 graphics (same as Ivy Bridge), just cut down to 4EUs (from 6 or 16EU).

The older Z2xxx's use the PowerVR SGX540/545.

Edit; Oops. Its the even older Z6xx's that use the SGX535.

you are right, the GPU is not an Intel design, but still is inside an Inte SoC so low GPU performance should be expected

to be fair it's pretty slow compared to "high end GPU" SoCs like Tegra k1 and the A8, but is probably not far from the average lower cost SoC.

Tablet only SoC like the Z3770 uses Intel graphic. The Z3580 being a smartphone SoC (too) uses PowerVR GPU.

its such a nice looking device.

intel is just flooding the world with its atom tablets. it almost drowns out the focus on performance (or lack thereof) relative to flagship tablets for the average consumer.

i still dream of a day when intel gets 14nm atom parts out that thoroughly thrash arm vendors the way intel thrashes amd.

From what I've seen, Moorefield's powervr GPU is on par with last year's high end skus, but is well behind the most recent iterations. It is certainly powerful enough to run anything you currently see on Android.

I say "nearly" because every once in a very great while, you're going to run into "native" Android apps that aren't written entirely in Java and so can't benefit from Dalvik or ART

Acting like use of NDK is some rare and exotic thing and not something extremely common in popular apps.

Most S801-based phones are still >$300. Atom Z3580 will offer better CPU and GPU performance than S801 (and 64-bit support) inside a $199 ASUS Zenphone 2. That's a lot of bang for the buck. Those complaining about the PowerVR Rogue iGPU should note that Snapdragon 615's iGPU is about half as fast and we have yet to see how Snapdragon 808 performs (and price of actual devices).

At $399 this Dell tablet may sound expensive but let's not forget it's a premium ultra-thin device with a gorgeous 2560x1600 OLED screen.

You're both right. The smartphone SoCs indeed use PoweVR. Oh, well. You learn something every day.

BTW, what's the reason for using 3rd party graphics? Would have thought it made sense to keep it in house...

Personally, I will take a hundred or 150.00 tablet with windows. I dont really care about 1600p on a 10 inch device. 1080p would be more than enough. And yes, I am biased, because I hate Android in anything larger than a phone.

If I'm not mistaken that's exactly what they will do with Broxton, a single SoC for phones/tablets using Intel's Gen 9 Graphics.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 2560x1600 8.4" is $349 retail. It seems the similar Dell with faster cpu, gpu, and thinner costs $50 more at $399.

Question is the exact same screen as the Tab S or a different part?

So it's about on par with what was top end ARM 1-2 years ago? Will be interested if the 14nm version at least gets near parity with current top end ARM but at a better price.
