Hey, I'm just looking for some advice/info on this topic.

I have an Acer Easystore home server H341 and I'm looking to do a couple upgrades to it instead of buying/building a new server.

It currently has an Intel Aton D410 processor, and I'm looking to swap in a D510/525. My concern is compatibility. I've searched for forum posts about this but can't find anything.

Does anyone know if this is just a straight swap? Or is would I need to change the Bios/anything else to do this?

The Acer H342 comes with a D510 and uses the same mainboard, so I'm hoping for a simple swap.

Any help/info would be great.

I think the Atoms are soldered to the board, meaning replacement would require a new motherboard/CPU unit.

You cant swap the CPUs.

The chip is not soldered in, the service manual shows a release clip.

Here's a link to the diagram:

Any reason for thinking that the chips are not "swappable" ShintaiDK?

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

Atom has never been swappable AFAIK. On page 64, it just shows the Atom processor(13) under the heatsink but as the others have said, it cannot be swapped. Refer to the 2nd last page, you'll see that both D410 and D510 is mounted with Micro-FCBGA8559. What BGA means is that the CPU itself is soldered directly to the motherboard.

Clip looks like it's for the heatsink, not the chip. Release mechanism for the chip would look more like a metal lever on the side of a plastic square.

Thanks for the info guys...looks like the only upgrades possible to make this thing a little faster is OS upgrade to WHS 2011 (64-bit) and a 4GB memory stick.
