Battle
I like it! All the heavyweight hardware companies are duking it out and providing greater variety for we the consumers to choose from of late. Now bring on the new games and vid cards and let the good times roll!

i agree...we have plenty of cpu power now...Now lets start seeing real SATA, pci-express, ddr2, etc....How about some software development to actually use the behemoths we have created....

I want to see other advancements right now then the cpu arms race....I just upgreaded several family members pc to 1.7-2ghz and I can tell you these ppl will not be ready o upgrade for 2-3 years...Want to realize why we have these cyclic recessions in the tech market??? Duh!!!!

4ghz is nice for power users like me, but I would gladly be happy with speed now if I saw more optimization of existing apps for HT, SSe2....If I could run high speed memory with low cas timings....if I could actually see SATA deliver 150mb/sec of performance....if we can fix the existing bottlenecks of the agp and pci bus....

Very nice to see competitivity again!
On another hand, is there a price drop soon in A64 cpus? or will it come when new cores will be available?

<--- *thinks we are about ten years away from what he would call "plenty" of CPU power, at the desktop/workstation level anyway

This competition is healthy for the industry as a whole.

Intel and AMD set new standards, introduce new techniques, develop new instruction sets etc.

Software developers write programs to take advantage of optimisations, mobo designers pack more firepower into their boards and Im sure that Intel and AMD have came up with a part of manfacturing process that is also very useful in a field other than directly into Processors.

Despite the fact that Intel is considerably richer and more well known than AMD to the majority of the market, I think AMD have done nothing less than a fantastic job to date.

Just hope these 2 can keep it up for a few years...
