Which Intel chip set is supposed to be targeted at the highest end of the desktop market, the 975X or the new P965?

Thanks

975X obviously... bigger number = higher performance.

if the 965 chipset (codename broadwater) was meant to exceed the performance of the older 975 chipset, they could have just as easily called it 985. you'll have to wait for the benchmarks to be sure.

One difference is the 975 offers ATI Crossfire support the 965 does not.

975X Conroe support is a function of the voltage regulation module on the motherboard. The 975X northbridge chipset itself does support Conroe.

975 = High-end, Crossfire native
965 = No native dual card support at all. Though it is "newer" and along with supposed C2D memory performance improvements, it's always paired with the superior ich8 southbridge.
