Intel 945G based motherboard

I have a HP slim tower that has Intel 945G in it. It currently has Pentium D 820. I was wondering if I could upgrade to Conroe. 6300, 6400...etc.

I googled a bit but failed to find anything solid. Please help me out. Thanks.

In most cases its not. but it depends on which version of 945G you have and if your OEM's bios supports the new chips, typicaly only the E21XX series w/ the 800mhz FSB are supported if you have support at all I'd suggest checking Hp's website for your model PC to see what type of CPU support it has.

this is the one.
Its difficult to know for certain but it's highly unlikely that any 945G motherboard manufactured prior to 2007 would support Conroe and later, particularly OEM boards. Looking at the BIOS and microcode updates for dc7600, only pre-Conroe Pentium D and Pentium 4 steppings are mentioned.

On the upside, any 533MHz and 800MHz FSB Pentium D or Pentium 4 models should be supported, though I would advise staying at or below the 95W TDP of your D820, given the air flow and cooling considerations of slim tower chassis.
