Hi, Im getting rdy to purchase a mobo for one that kicked out on me. I had a 865pe and I was wondering if its worth the difference in $ to go ahead and get a 875 chipset? What is the advantage of the 875 over the 865? Thanks for the advice.

I think that the main thing the 875 has over the 865 is PAT, but I still think the 865 is a better deal. Lower cost, close to perf of 875.

Also has Gigabit ethernet built into the SB chip unlike the 865 that has it via onboard chip. I have heard that it is about a 5% increase in performance.

If you already have a 865PE board, there is no good reason to jump onto the 875.

dude, his 865 died

and i would go for the 875, with the new chipsets rolled out they shouldn't cost that much more... maybe an Abit IC7-G? looks like a pretty sweet board

edit: spelling, and ya, with 915s and 925s out i suppose theres been a price drop on the 8X5

Yes, I'm actually trying to decide between the Asus P4P800 Deluxe (i865) and the P4C800 Deluxe (i875). Over here, the P4C is $100 more than the P4P, and I don't really think that a 3% performance increase is worth that.

Ya like some said before the main difference between the two is PAT which deals with ram acceleration. I know on my IS7 (i865) it has GAT (Game Acceleration Technology I think) which is basically a form of PAT.

Most of the high end i865 boards introduce something that works sorta like PAT, but isn't quite PAT so Intel won't give them problems. The difference will be minimal at best.

Here is an article showing the difference in performance between i915 and i925 chipsets. Not the same comparison you are looking at, but the difference between 875 and 865 should be similar:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articl...lay/p4-fastest_10.html

The first graphi on that page is the i925x vs. the baseline of the i915. You can see that there are only two applications where the i925 is more than 2% faster. Most cases are 1% or less.
