Intel 845G chipset motherboards are out!

It's a couple of weeks early, but several boards are listed - some even with the 6 ch usb 2.0! Prices range from $115 - $131. I read a recent review (don't remember where) which showed that the 845G was the fastest available DDR P4 chipset available. The reason given was that supposedly the 845G had been optimized by Intel because of its onbaord graphics.

must resist...hmmpphmmm aahhhh

ah , wtf. you only live once.

where's that damn credit card.

🙂

Dang it!! Everytime I think I know what I want something else comes out and I have to start refiguring again....:|

I wish I could find that review 🙁 I really, really have to decide on a direction (845G vs 645DX vs 850e) & build my new PC this month.

Thanks Strafe, that rings a bell but I just did a search & found a review, but can't find where the reviewer said the 845G was the fastest chipset because of whatever optimization. If you can find it, please post a link! Thanks.

A good price for a board with onboard everything. Looks like a really good option for me. I think I will give the i845G a spin.

Strafe - thanks, that's the article! I see it's been "updated" i.e. stuff taken out 🙁 I think the 845G chipset is the one labled "future chipset 1"

We were pleasantly surprised by a new chipset, which will officially be launched at the end of May. The manufacturer (ha, ha Tom's dislikes Intel so much they won't even mention the name??) has optimized the memory interface of the new chipsets, so that the future chipset impressed us in the memory tests. In all of the benchmarks, the combination of the new chipset with DDR333 outperformed Intel 850 with RDRAM and 400 MHz memory clock.

Of course, the conclusion then goes on to state that the 850 chipset using PC1066 RDRAM can't be touched even with DDR400. And with dual channel RDRAM coming out I may be forced to wait to upgrade 🙁

Booster - Actually, I'll use my own video card I just want this chipset if I go DDR because the chipset has been optimized and performs better.

I have seen a reference somewhere saying that the 845GE will have DDR333. I'm wondering if the 845G is just an 845e with graphics and DDR266. It's hard to believe that newegg is selling the 845G but I can't find any reviews. Can't even find the board that newegg is selling on chaintech's site (CHAINTECH 9BJF).

The MSI version is now listed at only $103, shipping May 23 though. The raid version is only $6 more 🙂

845G Max Chipset
Socket 478
533MHz FSB
ATX Form Factor
Integrated VGA
USB 2.0, ATA133 The Intel spec doesn't include usb 2.0, so this is a cool addition that some manufacturers are putting in.
Raid - providing up to 8 IDE Devices (Available only in the 6580-010 Model)
4X AGP, 6 PCI, 1 CNR
3 DDR up to 2GB

I can't find information on any manufacturers (MSI, FIC, Epox Chaintec, Abit) website that have boards offering this chip either. If anyone finds any reviews, etc. please post!
