Intel 845D mobo question, INF?

I just got a new motherboard, and am wondering if I should install the newest INF update right away, or just use the one on my disc? Also is it best to install this before anything else? I'm guessing it's like the Via 4-1's, but like the vias, can newer versions be less stable? Or should I just go for the newest right away?

Thanks!

i845 board? I would just stick with whatever is loaded with Windows. Unlike VIA, Intel's drivers work a little better. I don't see any reason to update the INF unless you are one of those people who must have the absolute latest drivers :)

I would just leave it alone unless you plan on reloading the OS. Intel usually has stable drivers. If you are experiencing an issue the new INF may fix then try it. If you look a new version of the application accelerator may exist also. I would not load new ones until I reloaded the entire machine. fortunately for me it has been three months so I think a new load of XP is in order.

Yes it's an 845D board, so it's not good to update them at all? Maybe I should just download the latest and have them ready to load in first.

When loading an intel board always get the latest drivers. you also need to lad everything in the correct order. Here is the link for boards wioth Intel chipsets.

I would probably say, if you are running Windows 98SE or older.. then Yes.. update

if running Windows ME, 2000, or XP.. then No.. leave as is

Are we just talking INF update here or specific drivers? If it's just about the INF update, you can (and probably should) install it, since it is no more than an updated text file, which tells Windows, what sort of chipset the motherboard uses (PCI bridge, AGP etc.). *NO* new drivers are installed, unless you've got the combined package with Intel busmaster drivers. The reason for the size of the INF update is that even tough it is a simple text update, the installation software that does it takes up a bit of space.

So, if you want to make sure that Windows detects all of the (Intel) components on your board correctly, you should install the update. Again, as for the busmaster drivers, I'd suggest to stick with the built-in Microsoft versions unless you experience problems.

Hope that helps...

845D is a new chipset. Windows will not have native drivers for it. Go to Intel's site and get the latest inf file. The App Accel drivers also work well.
