Intel 810 MB will not accept Nic card(s) very strange problem...?

I have an Intel 810 based system (board has 5 PCI slots) that will recognize and setup drivers for most any Nic card (have tried Intel, Belkin, Linksys) but just wont turn the power on to it...? What I mean is the active led on the back of the nic card wont lite up nor will it lite up a hub...? WTF...? Has anyone had this before...?

Move the NIC to a difference slot. Reinstall it with the lastest driver. Turn off the power saving management for the NIC card.
I have an Intel 810 MB works fine with a 3Com NIC.
