Intel 800/100FSB on Asus P3B-F?

I?d like to upgrade my system this summer in order to run the upcoming IL-2 as best as I can afford. Currently I have a Celeron FCPGA 400 on a Slot 1 Asus P3B-F motherboard with 224MB PC100 RAM. Ideally I would get an 800/133FSB but due to financial constraints cannot really afford to upgrade everything at once. I was thinking of doing the processor first. According to the Asus website the P3B-F can take an 800 coppermine with the latest BIOS update. However the board was designed for a 100FSB and I?m wondering what would happen [without actually doing it :)] if I put an 800/133 on it instead of and 800/100? Would the processor just run at 100 FSB or would there be a chance of frying my motherboard somehow? That way I could upgrade my motherboard and Ram later this fall or next winter when I can scrape together a few more bucks and take advantage of the 133FSB.

Thanks for any tips/info, Fritzdog

I wouldn't think it would be a problem, as long as your ram and video card can hack it, I am running the asus P3b-f as we type,( I type ),and am running an P3 800 100mhz fsb cpu, but I'm running it at 133 fsb, for a total of 1064. The initial boot with the 800 133fsb cpu may boot to 100fsb, but after you set bios to 133 I would think it would run fine, just IMHO tho.

Thanks for the reply.

If I left the Mobo at 100FSB would it hurt the 800/133FSB processor to run at this slower speed? I probably don't have the best RAM so I do not hold much hope of running it at 133. My RAM is CompUSA store brand which has run fine but I doubt it could be pushed too far.

BTW my video card is a V5 if that matters in this scenario.

Thanks, Fritzdog

Quite frankly, I wouldn't buy an 800 133fsb cpu, to run it at 600mhz, would be a lot cheaper to just buy a 600e, and clock it as high as you can get it, and save the $$

Thanks for the info! I did not realize that it would end up running at 600. Definitely do not want that!

Your welcome, I'd go with a 700 if I were you, seems to oc very well, even with the stock Hs/fan combo :)
