do u guys think intel's 64 cpu's are gonna be better then amd's in performance? because i hear that their gonna outsell amd's cpu's at the end of the year. is that just brand loyalty? or is it gonna actually be better then amd?

We will have to wait untill they come out to know which is better. As it is only Intel would know, and they may not yet depending on how far along they are. They have had 64bit CPUs out for awhile, but they are in a different class then the ones you are thinking of.

As far as why they will outsell the main reason is that Intel is huge and has way more market penetration then AMD.

Who has Dell and Gateway?
Intel.
Period.
It does not mater if they wil b better, and I doubt they will be. AMD has manged competitiveness since the socket Athlons; I doubt that wil cease.

Aren't the Intel x64 CPUs going to be based on the AMD x64 CPUs? Maybe it's just that they will be compatable. I don't recall to be honest. In any event, bith companies make great products (for the most part) and wheather one will be better than the other will depend, and we'll have to wait and see. And I agree, the only reason Intel would sell more CPUs than AMD is because Intel is huge and AMD is not. Plain and simple. McDonald's sells billions of burgers because they are the biggest, not because they are always the best...

AMD Dominated Slot Technology. Intel got their ass kicked sideways by them and lost the race to 1 gig.

Rumor has it, AMD's 64 bit cpu's will be faster then Intel's.

intel is adding the amd x86 instruction set, but they will still be using the same architecture in their cpu's

so if amd's current architecture is faster then P4 prescot at 32bit, then at 64bit the amd should lead by the same ratio of performance

...an AMD has been much smoother in scalaing CPU speed, unlike previously.

After Prescott, Intel is going to have to impress the hell of me to make me want to buy a Socket 775 setup instead of an AMD Socket 939 setup, I love my current Athlon64, was looking ofrward to Prescott, was dissapointed, and am still enjoying my A64.

Will it really matter ? Are home users going to jump on 64bit os and apps so fast ?

People always want the fastest, a client demanded the other day that he have gigabit ethernet ports on his Mb's yet he has cable modem access and is running wireless anyway so he will never be using any ethernet ports.

People will for the very reason you listed.

When they go to Wal-Mart or CompUSA to buy their computer, and they have the choice between one that says "64 bit" and one that doesn't, they will want and pay for the 64 bit one. People like feeling like they got a good deal after they buy something, and they'll feel proud of owning a 64 bit computer even if they don't have a clue what it means or how to use it.

hopefully, as Intel catches up to the A64... AMD will a step ahead preping their next revision of the A64 spec and keep a step ahead
