anyone know the ratio you think? is it faster than fx-55? I dont need like an EXACT measurement but a ballpark would be kinda cool

About a 2700 Mhz winny 939 globally speaking. It would be faster than a stock FX-55 in most things.

most likely throttling.

depends really. IDK too much about OCing a preshott, but memory bandwidth is pretty damn important correct? Gaming wise, roughly equivalent. On air, that would be a damn nice OC though.

P4 4.2, it would be more like an athlon 64 3800+, 2400MHz, In most of the apps. Can't still keep up with the FX-55

Maybe the 500 series P4 at 4.2 would be like an A64 3800+, but he's talking about the 600 series at 4.2. Wouldn't the 2 meg cache and 64-bits help it out?

The 2MB L2 has higher latency, and 64-bit only helps in a 64-bit OS with 64-bit apps, or if you need more than 4GB RAM (for one processor). I didn't even know there was a Pentium 4 620, I thought Intel went straight up to the 3GHz 630.

Technically the FX55 is being moved to the 4200+. Therefor since your CPU is at 4.2 I'd say that on the whole they are equal.

We are talking about general performance, encoding is the 10% of the apps, AMD dominates gaming and win in most of the rest of apps. Syntethic tests are not valid, since they don't reflect real life performance.

Extra cache doesn't help the 600 series in performance, as shown on AT the tests, due to the increaser chache latency. And 64bits support only helps with 64bits apps, where A64 seems to be clearly much better than P4 6xx series.

Use something like SiSoft SANDRA to get a rough benchmark equivalent. I doubt it'll get up there with the FX-55 though...

Don't use SiSuck SANDRA. It's a synthetic bechmak, meaningless , since it doesn't reflect real life performance.
