i just upgraded my system to a z170a gaming m5 board with a 6700k and 16gb ddr4 ram. The intel 600p i have installed in the m.2-1 slot and i cannot get it to run at full speed. in crystaldisk benchmark its only reading at 785 not the rated 1700 or whatever it is. read speeds seem to be fine though. is there some setting im missing out on here? thanks

It is dependent on the size of the 600p you bought, but none of them are rated to write at 1700 MB/s.

http://www.techspot.com/review/1254-intel-ssd-600p/

The 512GB model is rated for a sequential read and write speed of 1775MB/s and 560MB/s, respectively, while its random read IOPS come in at 155,000 with the write IOPS reaching 128,000. So again, not in the same class as the much more expensive NVMe drives such as Samsung's 950 Pro, Toshiba's OCZ RD400 or even Intel's own SSD 750 Series.

So the speed that you are getting is higher for writes...

Sorry the 785 figure was for the reads I meant. My writes are at 560 Ish. So the reads are less than half what they should be.. sorry for the error on the typing for that post. I'm tired hehe

Oh, so writes are fine, but not reads.
That usually points to a driver issue, what drivers are you using, and which OS?
Is AHCI enabled in the BIOS (no idea if you got any options for the M.2 slot)?

We really need to know your exact components to begin to figure out what is the issue.

It could be your M.2 slot as the speed can be different depending on the motherboard (PCIe (2.0 and 3.0) x2, x4. Also, sometimes if you use certain SATA connectors, it can knock your M.2 speed down. Your motherboard manual will have a section where it shows what SATA connections get disabled or the performance reduced if you use the M.2 slot.

I looked in your manual, and if you are using either the M.2_1 or M.2_2 slot, SATA 1-4 will work, and it doesn't mention it reducing the speed of the M.2 slot.

Double check your BIOS and make sure the settings in there are correct. Also, did you do a clean install of Windows when you put the drive in, or did you clone it over from another drive? Like Elixer mentioned, it could simply be a driver issue or a Windows configuration issue. Lastly, you aren't running your computer in a 'Power Saver' mode?

Interestingly, I have some Z170 boards, with M.2 PCI-E AHCI SM951 128GB SSDs, and overclocked G4400 CPUs.

In Win7 64-bit (updated), my sequential speeds were normal (2000/650), but my 4KQD32 scores were approximately half of what they should have been. (228/205).

After reading this thread, I ran another CDM, this time, I got (588/258). Waaay better. The difference? I'm on an updated copy of Win10 64-bit 1607.

So the OS you're running may have something to do with it.

My setup is the i7 6700k with 16gb of ram and a gtx1070 running Windows 10 64 bit. I can look to see if ahci is enabled as well . The m.2 is in the m.2-1 slot. Thanks

Something is wrong. I get much higher speeds with my 512gb 600p.

As UsandThem said, was this a clone, or a fresh install?
Could be the M.2 isn't aligned correctly, that would fubar reads.

Any other PCIe cards in the system?

it isnt " technically a fresh install". i plugged my drive in and it worked with my current copy of windows, just had to add a new key. i tried doing a fresh install and every time i went to install windows the first reboot it did in the install made me start the windows install all over again and i have no idea why its doing this. no other drives are in the system

any ideas now guys? i did try to re-align it with same results.

It's most likely a configuration issue. So when you installed the 600p, you cloned the OS from another drive and then removed it? Have you tried it in your other M.2 port?

You might want to make sure it is configured in your BIOS properly (PCIe 4x), and when installing Windows 10, delete your partitions when you get to that screen, and create a new one to install Windows.

What method did you try to install Windows when it kept rebooting (USB or DVD)? That tells me there is some issue going on.

it was never a clone. i used this drive in my old system and popped it in and it just worked. but it would not let me reinstall windows. when i was trying to install windows from a usb key it did exactly what i described earlier. all i had to do is put in my new windows key once i got booted into windows to activate it. i dont see any options for the m.2 specifically in the bios.

the reboot thing that im talking about only happened in the first reboot that windows does when your installing it. you know how it reboots like 2-3 times i think it is. but on the first one it goes right back to the beginning of the windows install. i wonder if when it does that first reboot i should pull out the usb stick and see if itll continue

Sorry, I saw you sent a message yesterday. I just now got my power and internet back on after hurricane Matthew, and have a lot to get caught up on.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed, and if you still can't get it to work a full speed, I'll be able to help some more in a few days.

i have determined it was the bios version installed. the latest bios which added kaby lake support made the drive run slow. i went back to a previous version and all is well. hope msi will catch this.
