Intel 535 problems

I have a Asus q501la laptop with windows 10. I cloned the original hd to a new intel ssd 535 drive without problems with a usb docking station. Installed the ssd into the laptop without problems. Ran windows 10 for about 4 mi utes before it locked up and rebooted itself. It would not detect the drive in bios. I turned it off and it then detected the drive and locked up again. Installed the original drive and it worked without problems.

I ran a smart diagnostic and it had some errors. Any ideas? I did buy two of the drives so I can install the other one but I'm trying to save time.of taking everything apart any more.

If there were SMART errors, it's time to see if you need an invoice to RMA it. If it was an included drive with another PC (doesn't sound it), though, it's just trash.

My experience with about 80 Intel SSDs over the years has been good...with relatively low failures.

That being said, I believe you have a bad SSD. Only other way to tell is to try SSD in an external enclosure attached to another computer. See if it is recognized.

Ultimately, best answer is to have it installed as 2nd internal SATA drive, booting off a different OS drive. Then install/run Intel SSD toolbox to find out for sure. It has always found bad drive, when it exists. Then, use the error code in SSD toolbox as part of Intel RMA process.

HTH...

What kind of SMART error are you getting, can you post screenshot

I don't have any with me, I can look when I get home tonight from work. It was had sector errors and something t9 do wit power.

This is my 3 or 4 ssd install and never had a problem, I usually Never have a problem

When I ran scan disk it said it had bad sectors. Probably easiest just to take it back to Microcenter and try a new one. I have an identical drive still new in box at home so I may try that tonight.

I appreciate the help, been building pcs for like 20 years so I can fix most probably but I'm out of the loop

Nothing you can fix on an SSD... unless it's a bad cable or something (but you said laptop...) I've had very good service with the Intel 535-series SSDs, but certainly there are a few out there... :\

I have seen bad sectors on Intel 530 SSD before, the 'ReAllocated sector count' was = 6,

Contacted Intel, and they told me there is nothing to worry about.

Yea, but on a brand new one?

I had a WD Red with bad sectors out of the box... back it went!

I tried it with the other intel ssd 535 that I have, gave me the exact same problems.

Cant even let it sit at the login of windows without locking up

The SMART data you posted looks fine, with no bad sectors at all.
but still, if it is disappearing from BIOS, then it still could be bad.

Try to rule out that the problem might have a different cause if possible, then go ahead with replacement procedure.

Both drives did the same thing. I returned one of them to microcenter, got a 850 evo and it works like a champ. Guess I'll use the other ssd for my new i7 system I'm building
