Intel 4690K vs 4790K

Depends entirely on the game and what framerates you're aiming for. Many games don't make effective use of more than 4 threads, and of those that do, most still stay above 60fps on an i5. An i7 makes a difference in a small percent for 60fps gaming and is nearly a requirement if you want to shoot for 120 or 144fps.
 
It will only make a significant difference if the game is cpu-bound. Depending on the game, chances are that it will be gpu-bound, in which case the cpu would make very little difference.
