intel 440LX

i am about to inherit an intel 440lx for free, and i was wondering what the maximum cpu speed is. it is just an intel branded board from a gateway system (it currently has a p2-233). will it take a 900mhz celeron in a slotket2? the lx was out before i was in to computers, so i don't know much about it.

My old computer is based on 440LX. I'm not sure, though, if it would be able to house an FC-PGA processor (and I wasn't in the mood to shell out extra money to investigate ). Any PPGA processor should be fine, though. My old system is happily running a dual Celeron 533 PPGA setup. That's the heighest PPGA clock available, as far as I understand.

Edit: Oh, one other thing. At least two different 440LX mobos I have seen all have 633 MHz as the highest clock supported (even though the documentation may say otherwise; but that's simply because such speeds were not available at the time of release). So if you have an unlocked CPU, you might try that.

I am using it currently with Celeron 433 but I think it supports up to Celeron 533. For PII, it's up to 300 I think.

Pentium II 333 (Deschutes) should also be supported. Actually, my old mobo's BIOS had to be updated to allow them, and Celeron as well. So, you might need to look up for the latest BIOS version available.

thanks for the help so far. does anyone know what capabilities this chipset would have with a slotket2? i'm pretty siure that the slotket2 has voltage adjustment right on the slotket itself, so i am really hoping that i can put a celermine in it.

The LX MB can only goto 66mz so technically you could use an FC-PGA
Celeron2 up to 766 with a slotket. But your BIOS has to support it and
most importantly your MB's voltage has to handle it...............
