i am about to inherit an intel 440lx for free, and i was wondering what the maximum cpu speed is. it is just an intel branded board from a gateway system (it currently has a p2-233). will it take a 900mhz celeron in a slotket2? the lx was out before i was in to computers, so i don't know much about it.

My old computer is based on 440LX. I'm not sure, though, if it would be able to house an FC-PGA processor (and I wasn't in the mood to shell out extra money to investigate

). Any PPGA processor should be fine, though. My old system is happily running a dual Celeron 533 PPGA setup. That's the heighest PPGA clock available, as far as I understand.
Edit: Oh, one other thing. At least two different 440LX mobos I have seen all have 633 MHz as the highest clock supported (even though the documentation may say otherwise; but that's simply because such speeds were not available at the time of release). So if you have an unlocked CPU, you might try that.
