So it's winter break and I finally have the time to update and fix my integrated and discrete graphic card drivers for my laptop. I uninstalled all the drivers and went through numerous reboots. All of I sudden I receive this "SMART Hard Disk 301" error on start up. I guess this is the 8MB glitch on early SSDs by Intel.

Here's what I got from GSmartControl:

smartctl 5.43 2012-06-30 r3573 [i686-linux-3.10.4-pmagic] (local build)

My laptop is a HP Envy 15 2011 and it is running Windows 8.1 64bit.
The hard disk is an 128GB Intel SSD 320.

I tried updating my SSD's firmware on my laptop with a DVD and for some reason it tells me that I have SMART disabled. I can't seem to find any options in the BIOS.

Recently I tried wiping the whole SSD with MHDD but the drive can't be detected. In addition, my BIOS doesn't even display any ADVANCED settings.

Most of my stuffs are backedup but I really wanted to have some specific files restored. But if that's not the case I just want to try and wipe and start off fresh. What are my options? Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.

IIRC, there isn't anything you can do on your end to fix it.
You might try to install it into a desktop machine, and see if it sees it.

Ye it is.
In this case recovering data is possible, with professional equipment, but if don't need that, try to proceed Secure Erase option .
In technomode it realy does help .

Mind elaborating please? Can I recover data myself?

I just realized I still have a warranty with HP and they are offering me a replacement SSD. I do have to send back my old one, how would I wipe it if that's the case?
