Intel 320 SSD 120GB $159.99 (amazon)

Tempting... 🙂

So not as good as the SATA 3 drives? How much performance loss are we talkin' here

fwiw I have the older 120gb drive and it is faster than I could really ever hope for OS and most used apps, sure it doesn't have 300mb/s throughput but I don't ever need that.

Was going to buy and noticed that it was a 120 GB.

I know I'm stupid, but I read this as a 320 GB and decided I didn't care what performance gains SATA3 would give a better drive, it was too good to pass up.

For this SSD, its actually not a Hot Deal at all. You can get the SATA3 for the basically the same price

There are many who would take the controller in the Intel over the one you linked, even with the SATA II/III divide. The one you linked has a SandForce SF-2200 SSD controller which has had many teething issues.

Oddly enough, the sandforce issues may be more prevalent with a particular brand, i.e., OCZ. Corsair is typically more conservative and safe when it comes to firmware updates and tweaking their drives.

Don't bet on it. I'm on my third Sandforce 1200-based Corsair F120GB2 after the first two failed.

If you don't have an SSD I think this drive is perfectly good. Most of the improvement IMHO comes from random reads 1-2 MB vs 40+ for this controller... Even if sandforce gets 80 or 160 we are talking 2 to 4 x better at most. Meanwhile you already got a 40x improvement. I think reliability is #1 for me over some small performance gain. Unless you are completely disk bound I'll stick with Crucial and Intel drives.

this is a good deal. I just paid 120 for the 80 gig version of this drive.

Intel is top quality with SSD. You can't compare the sandforce based drives to them.

looks like they have it for $119.99 after $70 rebate
finally $1/GB on a reliable ssd

yes its sata 2, but there are a lot ppl out there with dual core desktops/laptops who won't upgrade in the near future 😛

the price on the 160gb is 155 AR too
pretty sweet deal there

here is the 160 for $154.99 AR + Battlefield 3 free:

I just picked up 2 from the egg. Note that the rebate is 2 per household with a max value of $260 (it's $120 each = $240 for these drives). While I'd like the fastest thing on the planet, I'm sure the intel 320 will feel faster than my current traditional HDD Raid 0 setup. I'm hoping the rumor is true and they will be supporting trim in raid-0 setups. If not, I'll be putting one in my gaming rig and the other in my laptop!

Edit: and 2 copes of BF3 sweeten the deal... I already have it... but I should be able to sell those!

Wow... why in the world newegg didnt advertised this? Eh... they will sell them anyway.
