Hey all --

This is an intentional repost from the GH forum... I thought there might be some people in here that might not frequent that board.

I'm working on pricing out a system, and thought I might go with the ABIT IS7. The GAT BIOS upgrade seems to make this a very attractive option. My question has to do with OCing a 2.xCGHz Intel chip on one of these things. Actually it's a couple of questions:

1) What's a good HSF that's not too expensive but will ensure rock-solid stability if I overclock?
2) Am I going to need PC3700 memory to take full advantage of the GAT technology on the IS7?
3) Which of the 2.xCGHz chips has the best price/performance ratio for mild overclocking? The 2.4C is obviously cheapest, but is it worth it to go up to the 2.6 or even the 2.8?

Lots of questions, I know, but any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot,

1. if overclocking you should invest in a nice HSF like a slk800/900. yes it is pricey but is a crucial part of your OC
2. pc3700 is perfered, you can get away with pc3500 esp if you get a 2.6C
3. i like the 2.6C cuz it wont stress your system as much as 2.4

I agree with what shady06 said except you do not need to get a new HSF if you get the Retail chip. The retail HSF is a nice combo. I only noticed a 1-2 degree drop in temps when I put a $50 Zalman HSF on there so needless to say that HSF when back to the vendor.
