And so the fire-sale of the prior generation parts start. This doesn't seem to be such a bad deal, on the surface. Critique, please.

Decent deal for solid CPU and the new $250 "mid-range" motherboard.

However, if I was going to drop $500 on a combo right now, I'd rather choose the faster 12600k and a $200 "entry-level" DDR4 motherboard for the same price.

That's a little unexpected. Are they not selling well due to lack of DDR5 availability?
I'm sure that's part of the reason plus pricey motherboards. Maybe they were overpriced to begin with and AMD cut their prices. I also here they run pretty hot.

It makes me sick I paid $275 for my 10700K and Asus Prime motherboard in a lucky newegg combo find. Now I'm two gens behind and the new CPUs are the same price as I paid.

I imagine anyone building an Intel 12th gen anytime soon will do so with a DDR4 motherboard.

I imagine the retail DDR5 motherboards are selling poorly due to the DDR5 pricing/availability right now.

Hey, $20 discount on a board too. I was eyeing the MSI Z690 DDR4 board. I mean, it seems fine?

I could sell my 5800X and board and be out less than $100, carry over ram, drop $60 on a decent aircooler and probably disable the ecores for W10 ease. I am sure I'd have an excuse to use my Noctua on an AMD build in the future.

It's tempting. OOS here in MN so at least that's slowing me down :D

If I just sit tight I'll probably get an opportunity to drop in a nice AMD chip. Patience and faith and all that.

Also, I expect at MC that it might be possible to get 11700k and a Z590 board out the door for ~$300 soon. If there was enough DDR5, I think we might already be there. There is usually a couple week period when they are EOL'ing a previous gen CPU and I've picked up 3770K, 4770K and multiple 9700K's and 9900K's for well under their normal pricing. I think I snagged a couple of 9700K CPUs with board discounts for ~$180 each.

Damn...I've been looking for a better Z390 board to replace the one in my pc.(case USB socket broken by Costco's repair when I had to send in for warranty replacement of the AIO cpu cooler. It still works fine, ASRock Phantom Gaming IV... but it's not great.
Prices like this for 2 generations newer...hmmm
