Intel 1 gig headache

Just installed a 1 gig P3 into my Intel 815eeal (replacing an 800 p3) -I have the lastest bios (09) and 256
mosel memory.Running ME. This chip has unleashed a ton of problems. ie. shut down hangs, slow boot, bad renders in Autocad, sound problems, on and on. It is an oem chip. This the first time I have had any chip problems. Any input would be appreciated.
thx
Howard

have you been to the microsoft site to get the Windows IDE Hard Drive Cache Package. read about it here!
also try disabling fast shutdown in msconfig/advanced.
let us know how you get on! 🙂

Try a format and reinstall Windows. I do that everytime I do a hardware upgrade. Most of the time anyways. WinMe is a very unstable OS and is about as worthless as the gum on the bottom of my shoe. 😉 Just kidding. I dualboot WinMe and Win2k. I use WinMe for gaming only and Win2k for everything else. Good luck mate!

I stick w/ 98SE

no reason to upgrade until WinXP shows up.

I'm running a similar setup, 700e@ 1gig on an i815e mobo (CUSL2)

I never had a single problem with it.

You should check your HSF and see if it's properely attached to the cpu. your cpu might be overheating...

Hey Thanks,
Yes I spent last night building out another drive, and yes I had downloaded the 2 second shut down delay driver, and have comletely updated all drivers-to no avail-the proc temp is 28c (Gorb). I have to agree with all, ME has been nothing but problems, of course I still have SE, but am seriously considering 2000pro as I need the stability for work. Does anyone have any idea on the realese date of Whistler (although I would prefer to wait for SP1, as I am geting tired of sorting these OS's out. Man I have got get this pup fast and stable. It runs great, but boot and shutdown problems @ 1Gig and (driver conflict problems with HP large format plotter) suck. Bottom line, I would appreciate input on 2000pro (maybe I should post in OS forum.
THX agin for your help.

PS It was running great with the 800eb and 866eb-I just have that damn need for speed, and it snakes me everytime. (I guess if it works, don't fix it!!)

Hey, how does the Gorb perform? I L O V E the look of it! 😉 Many people say it is more than suffice for the Pentium 3 1Ghz....???? How would it perform against an Alpha PAL6035??? I used the PAL6035, and holy crap that was a major b*tch to install! Man! It took me over 45 minutes to get that ah heck on! The clip kept moving one way, while I'd try to maneuver it to go back down, and over the socket clip! Any suggestions/comments?

Thanks.

Well I have resolved all issues, just built out a Win 2000 drive, and ALL problems have gone away. Autocad also runs better-should have done this long ago-but Matrox had not released the drivers for duel head support. Now I am rockin again. And JamesBond007, with the orb the sys and cpu are reporting 26C- I am also running two other Sunon fans in my case.
thx to all
