Intel 1.7GHz P4

bob4432

Lifer
a buddy of mine just gave me one and i was wondering if they o/c very well? if not, are they much faster than a 1GHz Athlon for everyday use or will there even be a difference?

if you mean a 1.7ghz s478 400fsb spec cpu -- then it should OC to 2.26ghz with moderate sucess .... eg. change from 100fsb to 133 fsb

at 1.7/2.26ghz it should be noticably faster than a 1ghz amd but not "wow" faster .....
however how do you plan to put a intel cpu into an amd mobo?

is this a serious question?

i didn't realize you could get them to ~2.2. what cooling? air? liquid?

IIRC, there were only Willamette (in other words, no Northwood) versions of the P4 1.7GHz CPU. There was an S423 and an S478 version, both with the same architecture, which included a whopping 256K L2 cache, half of what a NW carries. You'd be pretty lucky to get a 10% OC out of these processors. They really were dogs. I'd skip it.

would you say skip it and continue using the 1GHz athlon or skip trying to o/c it?
