Intel® SE440BX-2 Motherboard 2 hard drive 2 cdrom problems.
Every time I connect up two harddrives and two cdroms up to this motherboard it will not post.
Remove any one of the four and leave only three connect in any sequence and it will boot up fine.
Why is this so???????????????????????????:disgust::frown::disgust:

Just disconnecting the data cable gets it to boot or do you have to remove the power too? I doubt it's a PSU issue but I thought I'd ask anyhow 🙂

I don't think it's a problem inherent in the mobo itself because I ran 24x7 with 1 HDD, CDRW, DVD... then, when setting up a new system, slapped another HDD in there just long enough to get it set up, then yanked it. It worked, but I didn't leave it in for very long.

Do you have any of them on cable select or auto? I'd set each up as a master/slave because I don't trust any auto detection.

Yes the jumpers are right I have tried Cable select as well as slave/master.
It just does not seem to like a fourth ide device hooked but to it.
It gets to finding the first harddrive then stops. If it only has three connected it boots straight up, no matter which three it is.
