Integration help

I'm having problem integrating (1-y^2)^1/2 dy
u substitution fails, I think. Can anyone do this?

Have you tried a trig substitution?

I haven't attempted to work it out, but that's a fairly common method in situations where you have square roots such as yours.

Also, to check your answer, google "The Integrator" from Wolfram Research.

Yeah do trig substitution. Make cos y = y, then you get (1 - cos^2 y)^1/2. Then 1-cos^2y = (sin^2y)^1/2 dy. Then integrate, chain rule.

Isn't this a simple chain rule?

.5(1-y^2)^-.5 * -2y or simplify:
-y(1-y^2)^-.5
