They both suck horrendously for anything beyond basic computer stuff (Internets, Movies, Flash Games) but the 9400 is the better performer of the two, for what its worth.

Full size ATX motherboards are now coming with integrated video whether you want it or not. So I was going to try and tolerate it and just add a card it is really that bad. I see nvidia and ati offerings and wondered which is better.

Is nVIDIA now the graphics leader?

9400 is roughly comparable to the integrated HD 3300 and HD4200. HD 4290 may be slightly faster than its predecessor, the HD 4200. Haven't seen any direct comparisons yet.

If by "tolerate it" you mean "try to play somewhat recent games on it," both are so horrendously slow it won't matter.
